Following 39 years of marriage, Judge Greg Mathis and his spouse Linda Reese Mathis are divorcing.
On Thursday, August 22, Linda, 61, filed for divorce from the 64-year-old Judge Mathis star in the Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging irreconcilable differences. She is claiming spousal support and has claimed July 17 as the date of their separation. If the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place, it is unclear. The news was initially reported by TMZ.
Jade, 39, Camara, 36, Greg Jr., 35, and Amir, 34, are the four adult children of the reality court show judge and Linda, who were wed in June 1985. In 2022, the family had a brief appearance on the short-lived E! reality series Mathis Family Matters.
Mathis shared a flashback picture of the couple from their wedding day in April 2021 to commemorate their enduring love. “It put me on the right path when I married Linda,” he posted on Facebook. “I hope that others will find inspiration in my journey.”
Greg featured in 24 seasons of the television legal drama Judge Mathis, which ran from 1999 to 2023. The syndicated courtroom program of the same name received the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program in 2018 for its run.
The host of the courtroom show received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2022 and grinned broadly as she accepted the honor.
Greg declared, “Having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is undoubtedly my greatest professional accomplishment.” However, I must admit that my family was the main source of my success.
“After coming out of the streets in Detroit, Linda allowed me to work 15 hours a day, five, six days a week,” he continued to compliment his now-ex. Therefore, I was able to pursue the achievement you see because of that backing.
Linda concurred then, stating, “Our love and support runs deep.” The Mathis family operates in this manner.
Following the show’s cancellation by Warner Bros. in February 2023, Mathis collaborated with Allen Media Group on a new syndicated courtroom program. Amir, Mathis’ son, serves as a bailiff in the September 2023 premiere of Mathis Court With Judge Mathis.
The last time Mathis shared anything about Linda on social media was at the start of January, when he shared pictures of the two of them posing and kissing while on vacation in Mexico.
“I had a terrific time celebrating the Christmas in Cabo with Linda. Great way to close out 2023,” he said as the photo’s caption.
