Olympic skateboarder Arisa Trew took home a gold medal and a pet duck from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris! With a score of 93.18, he defeated opponents from Japan and Great Britain to become the youngest Australian and first-time Olympian to win gold. Her desire of having a pet duck is about to come true, since her parents had promised to acquire her one if she won.
Arisa stated, “My parents definitely wouldn’t let me get a dog or a cat because we’re traveling so much right now,” in an interview with Nine News. However, I believe that a duck might be a little simpler, and I just want a duck, I dunno.
She told reporters, “It feels amazing having the gold medal around my neck,” as she considered her historic victory. Ever since I saw the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020, that has been my aim. That motivated and encouraged me to attend the Olympics and place on the podium, which is just incredible.
Simone, Arisa’s father, told the outlet that he was shocked by her achievement, saying, “We can’t believe it.” It’s completely insane, insane, insane. That someone who enjoys skating and having fun could accomplish this is simply amazing.
“Her coach Trev did the most amazing job,” he said, praising her coach as well. He’s got her over the edge; it’s just unreal.” The father continued by explaining how “going out and having fun and enjoying the sport” and “being active and having a good time” gave his daughter the confidence to start skateboarding.
Many people have praised Arisa, including skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, who expressed his admiration for her in an Instagram video of her performance. “A well-deserved gold medal was earned by @arisa_trew for her incredible final run in the women’s park finals this afternoon,” the writer stated.
In addition, Tony Hawk praised the work of bronze medallist Sky Brown and silver medalist Cocona Hiraki, saying that the younger skateboarders have ushered in “a new era of equality and inclusivity” for the sport.
